Description: Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum – is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company factory building located at 180 Thompson Street in North Tonawanda. The building is listed on the New York State & National Registers of Historic Places. The Herschell Companies produced more hand carved carrousels than the combined total of companies in New York City, Philadelphia and Abilene, KS. They also were the world’s largest producers of other amusement rides, significantly impacting the history of family recreation in the United States. The museum exhibits interpret this historic building and its products. They include the Carving, Music Roll and Paint Shops with 24 hand-carved carrousel figures. The new exhibit for 2011 is “Kiddieland – A Business With A Future”. Two operating carrousels bring back childhood memories or create new family memories. Special events and family entertainment are presented throughout the year. Visit www.carrouselmuseum.org or call 716-693-1885 for detail
Our Story: Herschell carrousels and rides were sold throughout the United States and beyond. Walt Disney envisioned Disneyland while watching his daughter enjoy Herschell kiddie rides in a small park in Califormnia. Thousands of children in multiple generations have memories of riding the kiddie cars, wet boat. Little Dipper roller coaster and helicopter rides, among others.
